A Town Called Mercy and The Power of Three Review

Wow. Again life runs away from me and my review is written at the eleventh hour! My thesis is due in three weeks and I have yet to start a 5000 word essay due in 4 weeks. Excuses? I haz them in good measure!

Anyways, I am meant to be writing more of my 5000 word essay right now so a reaction list will have to suffice for these two episodes. I am sure tomorrow night's episode will merit excessive meta!

A Town Called Mercy

- I loved this episode like you wouldn't believe. It wasn't as good as The God Complex but I still enjoyed the moral and ethical debate happening. I felt sorry for, and understood all of the characters and found The Doctor's dilemma particularly hard this time around. I vote Toby Whithouse for future showrunner!
- I loved Amy in this episode. She has really turned into a wonderful and mature companion this series. I am really sorry that she must leave.
- I liked the way this episode was framed as a story within a story. Why, hello reoccuring new new who theme. I have loved the fairy tale/mythologising vibe from the get go of Moffat's tenure and Whithouse seems to really love it too.
- The music at the start of this episode was lovely. Can't wait for the soundtrack.

The Power of Three

- I have just realised that every single episode title has been exactly four words. Is that sneaky Moffat fun thing or nothing at all?
- Missed the start gosh damn. I love the way we get to see Amy and Rory's life. I understand that some people dislike Moffat's focus on the companions as being just as much a dramatic focus as The Doctor, but I like seeing the companions lives. I feel like I can get more attached and they feel more rounded out as characters. Just my opinion :)
- OMG KATE LETHBRIDGE STUART? OH MOFFAT. I love the way he keeps bringing things back to old fashioned who.
- Does this mean UNIT is gonna come back every now and again instead of Torchwood?
- The Doctor acts exactly how I imagine him to act in real time. I seem to remember the same thing happening in s5 with "Is this how time passes for you? In order and really, really slowly?" I love Eleven.
- Amy/Doctor bonding. Oh. prepares for heart to be broken alongside The Doctor's
- I think that this is the most sensible companion storyline of new who yet. Amy and Rory act and react to life with The Doctor exactly how I imagine real people would act. Eventually, Wendy has to grow up and Peter has to say goodbye. Moffat's Who has been so fairy story based, how could it end any other way?
-YOU KILL AMY AND RORY NEXT WEEK MOFFAT I WILL BE INCONSOLABLE. I AM NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE TO KAREN AND THE BABES. I AM NOT READY TO SAY GOODBYE TO MY GOLDEN ERA OF WHO!

No spoilers for The Angels Take Manhatten or you will die. K Thanks.

THIS. WHOLE. POST.

lovethispost2

*DANCES*

YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS PIC.

XD

Out of interest, what order would you rank the episodes so far?

I have no idea lol. They are all good! Probably something like this;

1. Asylum of the Daleks/Power of Three
2. Town called mercy close behind
3. Dinosaurs on a spaceship

You?

1) Asylum of the Daleks
2) Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
3) The Power of Three
4) A Town Called Mercy

For me The Angels Take Manhattan fits in between AotD and DoaS :)
I enjoyed them all though!

Honestly I can't really rank them as they ALL were more enjoyable than otherwise. I think s7 is shaping up to be a great series :)

ps: Manhattan episode tonight!

It really is! I'm excited for the new companion as well :)

Oo! Hope you enjoy it! Well sort of enjoy it, seen as it's the Pond's last episode!

OMG FEELINGS. ALL THE POND FEELINGS.

PLEASE BE SEEING MY REACTION POST.

You wrote 'A town called malice' ;) Resisting the urge to sing now

Whithouse as the next showrunner would be so good, as a Being Human viewer I can only approve! I loved these two eps wholeheartedly, and Eleven is becoming a character I truly love. Re the focus on the companions, I love that, but what was missing in Moffat's era imo was the presence of their families as anchor points. Which is why I was so grateful for Brian :)

I wrote this post late in my defence! also good song lol!

Series 7 has been so good :P Re the second part fair enough and good point. I liked that loads about Martha :)
